Our story

Rooted in East Kent

East Kent Growers is a family-run market garden near Wingham, dedicated to supplying the freshest fruit and vegetables across East Kent. The business is led by Paul and Michelle Vesey-Wells, who took over and re-established the former Walmestone Growers as East Kent Growers.

When the nursery was closed and put up for sale in 2023, its future hung in the balance. By June 2024, after an incredible community effort and a successful crowdfunding campaign, Paul and Michelle secured the land — keeping it growing and continuing to serve the customers who had relied on it for years.

Our mission is simple but vital: to keep local food growing alive in East Kent, protect productive farmland, and champion sustainable, community-based agriculture.

What We Grow & Supply

We take great pride in growing some of our own crops right here on site — from tomatoes, cucumbers and herbs to radishes and salad leaves.

We also partner with neighbouring farms, organic growers and trusted wholesalers, so a wide variety of fresh, seasonal produce is available all year round. Our produce reaches homes, restaurants, caterers and farm shops across the region, with weekly veg boxes delivered direct to customers in Deal, Dover, Canterbury and beyond.

Every box is customisable, flexible and free from contracts — just great, fresh food delivered with care.

Beyond Food: Events & Stays

East Kent Growers is more than a working market garden — it's also a community space.

Throughout the year, we host seasonal events in our converted glasshouse, giving visitors the chance to join a quiz, share a meal or take part in a workshop in a beautiful natural setting.

For those who want to immerse themselves more fully in rural Kent life, we also offer farm-stay accommodation — a peaceful, self-contained retreat within the farmhouse. Guests can unwind in lovely countryside surroundings, pick up fresh produce, and experience the rhythms of a working market garden.

These activities help bring people closer to food, farming and nature — while supporting the long-term sustainability of our business and our land.
